Einhorn-Verlag has been enriching the cultural and communal life of Schwäbisch Gmünd as a regional publisher since 1956.
Incidentally, our unicorn has nothing to do with fantasy, even if we also publish fantasy literature, for example with “Ein Einhorn für Gmünd”: It has been the heraldic animal of Gmünd since the Middle Ages and is omnipresent in the oldest Staufer town.
In recent years, the publication of books has developed into an important mainstay: as the only genuine book publisher in the region, einhorn-Verlag accompanies, designs, edits and markets around ten to twenty new publications every year, including some print orders – some Manuscripts from our customers manage to clear the high hurdle in the book trade as a print job. The publisher’s directory now contains around 180 titles.
In addition, as a specialist and municipal publisher, einhorn-Verlag publishes association magazines, club news, city magazines, event calendars, city and local maps, calendars and local brochures. In addition, our newsletters are published in 24 municipalities and districts with a total circulation of 18,500 copies per week.
190 of our own deliverers, who form an extensive network throughout the region, ensure the timely delivery of our publications. Thanks to state-of-the-art technical equipment, media designers and our own editorial team ensure that all products have an appealing appearance and sophisticated language.
In addition, our media consultants acquire advertisements, with which some of our publications such as “GD events” can be partially or fully refinanced.

“Courage is always appreciated.” Publisher Eduard Dietenberger followed this guiding principle throughout his life. The success of his company proves that courage and perseverance actually pay off: Founded in 1951 as a two-man advertising agency, the publisher and generous patron of culture developed his company into a regional book and municipal publisher. In 1956, the company was entered in the commercial register as “Einhorn-Verlag und Werbebüro Eduard Dietenberger”.
It was and is a stroke of luck for the publishing house that a former trainee of Eduard Dietenberger is still running it today. Managing Director Jörg Schumacher remembers: “When I started my apprenticeship at Einhorn-Verlag Eduard Dietenberger GmbH in 1980 – a 17-year-old boy at the time – my teacher and mentor Eduard Dietenberger took me under his wing right from the start. He formed and supported me as a trainee, publishing clerk and later commercial manager, so that today I can continue the work in his spirit as managing director of einhorn-Verlag.”
After several stages within the company, the current managing director steadily expanded the portfolio and equipped the publishing house for the digital age.
The typesetting department has always been the heart of the einhorn publishing house. Talented media designers work here with passion to ensure that everything that leaves our company is designed in an appealing and refreshing way.
As a book publisher, einhorn-Verlag is committed to tradition and yet up to date: Of course, online presence and social media campaigns are also part of our area of activity.
An important mainstay are our 13 newsletters for 24 municipalities and districts.
Since July 2013, all publications have carried the sophisticated typographic signature of the multi-award-winning project manager Johannes Paus. The book manufacturer has received several awards, for example in the “Most beautiful books from all over the world” competition (e.g. for “Brehm’s Animal Life” 2008) and in the “Most beautiful German books” competition.
Thanks to the two editors Sina Wamsler and Birgit Markert, only polished texts find their way into the typesetting department. Her motto, freely adapted from Voltaire: “Any way of writing is allowed, just not the boring one.”
Everything is in one hand at einhorn-Verlag, from acquisition to printing: Our ad consultants Nanna Diemar and Hans-Peter Menrad ensure that everyone can place the perfect ad in the appropriate medium. You maintain personal contact with the customer and respond to their wishes individually. The ads are creatively designed in our publishing house in the in-house graphic pre-stage. You are also welcome to place your finished advertisement with us.
Our exclusive products only leave the publisher for the printer when we are really convinced of the layout and the content. And even then you don’t have to travel long distances: einhorn-Verlag prefers to print locally.
For several years, einhorn-Verlag has been creating online presences as an all-round package with photos, texts and an attractive web design. We can also support our customers with the search engine optimization of the homepage.
Einhorn-Verlag has been based at Sebaldplatz 1-3 since 2003, just a few minutes’ walk from the city centre. Our service area with book shop is open from Monday to Friday from 8 a.m. to 5 p.m. The good souls in sales are happy to fulfill customer requests and have an answer for almost every inquiry. You are also happy to accept advertisements and serve customers who buy our books directly from us. We really benefit from the central location and the relaxed search for a parking space around Sebaldplatz.
Service is very important to us, especially when it comes to managing subscriptions. New admissions, complaints and cancellations are processed quickly here and countless telephone calls are answered. Customer friendliness is the top priority. Another weekly task is to pick the “Blättle”, as we affectionately call our official and municipal newspapers, and add supplements.
The einhorn-Verlag employs around 190 carriers who cover an extensive network throughout the region. Distribution to all households is also no problem for us thanks to this dense carrier network.
